Strawberry Hill
By Rita Cook

It's reggae and in Jamaica nothing spells it better than the much loved Bob Marley. In remembrance of Marley, who would be 60 years old this year, record mogul Chris Blackwell is announcing the exclusive "One Love" vacation package at his four ever-popular Island Outpost properties.

Blackwell, who discovered both Marley and U2 and founded Island Records and Palm Pictures, is a bit of a hotel celebrity with his Island Outposts string of properties in both Jamaica and the Bahamas. The "One Love" package will take reggae fans and music lovers on a trip up-close-and-personal to get a glimpse of Marley's life while at the same time experiencing the funk and sexy sophistication of the island's most hip retreats.
Guests who book five nights or more at any one of or a combination of the four Island Outpost Jamaican properties will receive one ipod shuffle per booking and customized tours depending on the chosen property.

For a trip to Strawberry Hill extras include a guided tour of the Bob Marley Museum and a chance to see Tuff Gong studio. Trench Town is also on the tour, which was a housing area that became the beginning of the Rastafarian movement.

Strawberry Hill consists of 12 cottages complete with the Caribbean's only Aveda Concept Spa. The cottages are wood-shingled and bespeak of the original nineteenth-century buildings with ceiling fans, cooling louvers and hardwood floors. Rates are from $325 per room, per night for a one-bedroom cottage, but can go as high as $775 for a mountain view of the Blue Mountains.

A stay at Island Outpost's property, Jakes, includes a guided tour to Nine Miles and a visit to Peter Tosh' monument. Jake's is a 29-room bohemian resort with dramatic cottage communes set near secluded fishing village. The theme is pure funk with purples, pinks and yellows all set amidst Moroccan domes and arches. Rates begin at $115 per night, but can reach $395 for the 800-square foot Octopussy Suite.

The most popular of the Island Outpost properties is definitely Goldeneye. Staying at this property means you will also receive a tour of ReggaeXplosion in Ocho Rios, which is an audio visual museum dedicated to the history of Reggae Music.

Goldeneye is the birthplace of James Bond. That's right 007 was actually originated on this 15-acre seaside hideaway, home to Ian Fleming. In fact, Fleming wrote 13 spy novels here. Nowadays, Fleming's old home is an intimate and informal resort with four villas located on a sea bluff. Rates begin at $895 per room, per night and a two-bedroom villa is around $3,600.

The Caves is the final Island Outpost property in Jamaica and with a stay here you will also receive a night of live Reggae in Negril. At the Caves the volcanic cliff is honeycombed with grottoes and can also accommodate romantic dining or a hot tub just for two. The Robb Report actually named the Caves one of the Worlds "Top 10 Great Escapes." Rates begin at $575 per room and a deluxe two-bedroom suite will cost you $925.
